CENTRAL COAST, NSW

HVAC marketing on the Central Coast: booked aircon quotes from Gosford to Wyong

Mostly freestanding houses, a lot of owners, and two climates in one region: warm beaches and frosty valleys. Good ducted country if the ads are split the right way.

The Central Coast looks like one market on a map. It is at least two. The beach suburbs from Umina to Toukley live with sea breezes and humidity. The valleys behind Gosford and out towards Wyong get proper summer heat and frosty winter mornings. Same council, different ads.

Why is HVAC marketing on the Central Coast different from Sydney?

Because the housing is mostly freestanding and owner-occupied, and the climate changes sharply between coast and valley. In 2021, 78.4% of Central Coast dwellings were separate houses, against 65.6% for NSW. That favours ducted and multi-head, but only if the ad matches the suburb's weather.

From the ABS 2021 QuickStats for the Central Coast Council area:

Occupied private dwellings, 2021 Central Coast NSW
Separate house 78.4% 65.6%
Semi-detached, row or terrace house, townhouse 12.0% 11.7%
Flat or apartment 8.7% 21.7%
Owned outright 34.5% 31.5%
Owned with a mortgage 34.0% 32.5%
Rented 27.5% 32.6%

More owners and more freestanding houses than the state average. For an installer that means fewer tyre-kickers who cannot sign off the job, and more homes with roof space for ducts.

How hot and cold does the Central Coast get?

It depends which side of the highway you are on. BOM's Gosford station at Narara averages 33.4 days a year at 30°C or more and 14.4 nights at 2°C or less. Norah Head on the coast averages 14.0 hot days and no nights that cold. Valley homes need heating and cooling; beach homes mostly need cooling.

BOM long-term averages Gosford (Narara) Norah Head (coast)
January mean maximum 27.6°C 26.4°C
Days per year at 30°C or more 33.4 14.0
Days per year at 35°C or more 7.6 2.7
July mean minimum 4.7°C 9.9°C
Days per year at 2°C or less 14.4 0.0
January 3pm relative humidity 59% 70%

Sources: BOM Gosford (Narara Research Station) and BOM Norah Head. The Gosford record runs to 2013; Norah Head is current.

A July average low of 4.7°C at Narara is colder than most of Sydney. That is a heating market, not just a summer one.

What do Central Coast homeowners actually buy?

Ducted reverse cycle in freestanding family homes, splits and multi-head in older beach cottages and units. Newer estates around Hamlyn Terrace and Lake Haven suit ducted. Older fibro and brick homes near the water often start with a split in the living area and add rooms later.

Ads lead with ducted, replacement and whole-home systems. We never advertise single-room splits. Three things we would build into the landing pages:

  • Valley suburbs (Gosford, Kariong, Wyong, Tuggerah): ducted reverse cycle sold as a heating and cooling system, with a free in-home heat-load assessment. A heat-load assessment is a site visit to size the system from the rooms, windows and insulation, not from a guess on the phone.
  • Beach suburbs (Terrigal, Avoca Beach, Umina Beach, The Entrance, Toukley): cooling and humidity first, and a line about outdoor unit placement and protection near salt air. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, and owners by the water know it.
  • Peninsula and older homes (Woy Woy, Kincumber, Erina): replace the old wall units with one whole-home system, with the ESS discount on the quote where eligible.

For how to sell the big jobs, see marketing ducted air conditioning online.

How would we run Meta and Google ads on the Central Coast?

Two suburb clusters, two seasons, both channels. We would run Meta and Google Search in a south cluster (Gosford, Erina, Terrigal, Woy Woy, Umina Beach, Kincumber) and a north cluster (Tuggerah, Wyong, Lake Haven, The Entrance, Toukley, Hamlyn Terrace), each with its own suburb-matched landing page, so a Toukley homeowner never lands on a Gosford page.

The Facebook ads for HVAC and Google Ads for HVAC setups are the same as anywhere else. The local choices are:

  • Radius. Suburb targeting, not one big circle from Gosford. A single radius wide enough to cover Umina and Toukley also pulls in areas you may not want to drive to.
  • Google Search. The same suburb lists, bidding on ducted and replacement searches such as "ducted air conditioning Gosford", plus breakdown searches in a heatwave. No single-room split searches.
  • Seasonality. Cooling from late spring to February. The $4,000 minimum starts at Meta $2,500 and Google $1,500, and flips to Google $2,500 and Meta $1,500 from December to February, because people search when systems break. From May, Off-Peak Fill switches the valley cluster to heating-led Meta offers, because a 4.7°C July average low is a sales argument. Our Sydney HVAC marketing calendar gives the month-by-month plan, and it maps closely to the Coast.
  • Travel. The qualifier's suburb and property answers go into the booking, so your scheduler can group site visits by cluster instead of crossing the region twice a day.

Worked example: break-even on the Coast (planning assumptions, not results)

All-in monthly cost: $3,000 fee + $4,000 ad spend ($2,500 Meta + $1,500 Google) = $7,000

Gross profit per ducted job (planning range): $2,300 to $4,800, about $3,500 as the planning midpoint

Jobs to cover the month: $7,000 ÷ $4,800 = about 1.5 jobs at the top of the range, $7,000 ÷ $2,300 = about 3.0 jobs at the bottom. At the midpoint, $7,000 ÷ $3,500 = about 2 ducted jobs.

Planning funnel: $4,000 ÷ $100 to $130 blended cost per enquiry = about 35 enquiries, 60% qualify = about 21, 60% book = about 12 to 13 booked quotes a month. At a 30% close rate on the ducted share alone, 7 ducted quotes would give about 2.1 jobs.

These figures use our Sydney planning ranges. Coast install prices may differ, and we replace every assumption with your numbers once the campaign runs.

Does the NSW ESS discount help Central Coast installers?

Yes. The Energy Savings Scheme discount applies across NSW and comes off the quote upfront. Energy NSW lists it as indicative up to $550 for a new 6kW system and up to $560 when replacing an old unit with a 6kW split, with no current closing date.

On the Coast it works best in the whole-home replacement ads for older homes. For ducted jobs it is a small line on a large quote, so we lead ducted ads with comfort and the heat-load visit instead.

Is the Central Coast territory available?

Yes, it is open. One HVAC client per service line per area, and the Central Coast is its own area, separate from Sydney. We have no clients yet, so nobody holds it. The first installer who signs keeps it while they stay with us, month to month after the first 90 days.

FAQ

Central Coast questions

Is the Central Coast a good market for ducted air conditioning?

On paper, yes. In the 2021 Census, 78.4% of dwellings in the Central Coast Council area were separate houses and 68.5% of households owned their home outright or with a mortgage. Freestanding, owner-occupied houses are where ducted jobs come from. We would still confirm it with the qualifier answers in the first month rather than assume it.

Should Central Coast aircon ads push heating or cooling?

Both, by area. BOM's Gosford station records about 14 nights a year at 2°C or less and 33 days at 30°C or more. Norah Head on the coast records no nights that cold and about 14 hot days. Valley suburbs get a heating push in winter; beach suburbs lean on cooling and humidity.

Does the NSW ESS discount apply on the Central Coast?

Yes. The NSW Energy Savings Scheme air conditioner discount applies across NSW and is taken off the quote upfront. Energy NSW lists it as indicative up to $550 for a new 6kW system and up to $560 when replacing an old unit with a 6kW split, and there is no current closing date.

Do you treat the Central Coast as part of Sydney?

No. The Central Coast is its own area with its own territory. An installer based in Sydney's north who also works the Coast can hold both, but that is a multi-area arrangement we quote on the call, with ad spend from $6,000 a month. We never sell the same service line in the same area to two installers.

Have you got Central Coast results I can look at?

No. Scale Theory is new and has no clients yet, on the Coast or anywhere else. We will not show you borrowed screenshots. What we can show is the system, the published price, the planning maths and how we would build the campaign for your area. Case studies come from real client diaries, dated, once we have them.
