HVAC marketing in Brisbane: cooling-led aircon marketing for a long, humid season

A long, warm, wet cooling season and no state aircon discount to hang an ad on. Brisbane needs a different offer to Sydney. We are Sydney first, so Brisbane is a waitlist.

Brisbane is the opposite of Melbourne. It buys aircon for summer, the summer is long, and the nights stay warm. It also has no state discount to put in the headline. We are building Sydney first, so Brisbane is a waitlist. Here is how we would run it when it opens.

Why is HVAC marketing in Brisbane different from Sydney?

Because the cooling season is about six months long and there is no state aircon discount. Brisbane averages 74.3 days a year at 30°C or more, against 15.2 at Sydney's Observatory Hill. Ads can run on comfort and timing for half the year, but they cannot lean on a government discount the way NSW and Victorian ads can.

BOM long-term averages Brisbane (city) Amberley (west, near Ipswich) Sydney (Observatory Hill)
January mean maximum 30.4°C 31.2°C 26.0°C
January mean minimum 21.7°C 19.7°C 18.8°C
Days per year at 30°C or more 74.3 97.2 15.2
Days per year at 35°C or more 3.9 13.5 3.2
July mean minimum 10.5°C 5.4°C 8.1°C
Days per year at 2°C or less 0.0 18.3 0.0

Look at the nights. Brisbane's mean minimum sits above 20°C from December to March, which makes for hard sleeping. That is a bedroom cooling sale, not just a living room one. The city also averages 140 to 176mm of rain a month from January to March, so the air is heavy as well as hot.

What housing do Brisbane installers work in?

Mostly freestanding houses. In the 2021 Census, 73.4% of dwellings in Greater Brisbane were separate houses, 11.4% semis and townhouses and 14.7% flats. About 35% of households rented, which is higher than you might expect for a house-heavy city, so the ownership filter still matters.

2021 Census Greater Brisbane
Separate house 73.4%
Semi-detached, row or terrace house, townhouse 11.4%
Flat or apartment 14.7%
Owned outright 25.9%
Owned with a mortgage 36.1%
Rented 35.1%

What do Brisbane homeowners buy?

Cooling first, and whole-house cooling where the house allows it. Newer estates such as North Lakes, Springfield Lakes and Forest Lake suit ducted reverse cycle. Older timber homes and post-war houses in the established suburbs often suit multi-head better, with the bedrooms as the priority because of those warm nights.

So the offers would split:

  • New estates (North Lakes, Springfield Lakes, Forest Lake): ducted reverse cycle with a free in-home heat-load assessment. A heat-load assessment is the site visit where the installer sizes the system from the actual rooms, glazing, insulation and orientation. In a Brisbane west-facing house that visit is the sale.
  • Established suburbs (Chermside, Aspley, Carindale, Indooroopilly, Kenmore): whole-home multi-head, sold room by room, bedrooms first. As everywhere, we would not advertise single-room splits.
  • Bayside (Wynnum, Cleveland, Capalaba): cooling and humidity, with outdoor unit placement that suits salt air.

How would we run Meta and Google ads in Brisbane without a rebate hook?

On timing and certainty instead of a discount, across Meta and Google Search. With no state aircon discount, the offer becomes a free heat-load assessment, a dated install-by promise ("installed before the first hot week of December if you book by a set date"), and pre-summer slots from August to October. Every enquiry still passes six qualifying questions.

The HVAC Profit Machine would run unchanged in shape. What changes for Brisbane:

  • The season is long, so is the budget curve. Spend ramps from September, holds from October to March, and drops in winter. Off-Peak Fill in Brisbane would sell pre-summer installs and servicing, with heating only in the western band.
  • Creative does the work a rebate does elsewhere. Without "$550 off" to lead with, the ad has to show a real system in a real Brisbane house and a real date. Our HVAC Facebook ad examples break down what that looks like.
  • Targeting by band. North (Chermside, Aspley, Albany Creek, Strathpine, North Lakes), east and bayside (Carindale, Mansfield, Wynnum, Capalaba, Cleveland), west (Indooroopilly, Kenmore, Forest Lake, Springfield Lakes). Final territory lines are not set.
  • Google Search alongside Meta. The same bands, bidding on ducted and replacement searches such as "ducted air conditioning North Lakes", plus breakdown searches when a system dies in a humid hot spell. With a season this long, Search matters for more of the year. In Sydney the $4,000 minimum flips to Google-heavy from December to February; Brisbane's peak months would get the same flip, with dates set from real data when it opens.

More on building the ads is on our Facebook ads for HVAC and Google Ads for HVAC pages, and our ranking of HVAC lead sources by cost per booked quote shows where each channel fits against the alternatives.

Worked example: the missing rebate line (illustration, not a quote)

A Sydney replacement ad can mention the NSW ESS discount on the quote, indicatively up to $550 or $560. A Melbourne ad can say "up to $1,610 upfront" under VEU.

A Brisbane ad has $0 of state discount to show.

So the offer has to carry the click on its own. Planning funnel at $4,000 of combined Meta and Google spend: $4,000 ÷ $100 to $130 blended cost per enquiry = about 35 enquiries, 60% qualify = about 21, 60% book = about 12 to 13 booked quotes, ($3,000 fee + $4,000 spend) ÷ 12.5 = about $550 all-in per booked quote.

Those are Sydney planning assumptions. Without a discount hook, Brisbane might need more enquiries per booked quote, or might not, given the longer season. We will not guess. We would set Brisbane targets from Sydney client data once we have it.

Is there any state discount for air conditioning in Queensland?

Not a live statewide one we would build a campaign on. NSW has the Energy Savings Scheme discount and Victoria has Victorian Energy Upgrades. Queensland has no equivalent live aircon discount hook, so Brisbane ads sell the assessment, the date and the comfort instead.

Is the Brisbane territory available?

Not yet. Brisbane is a waitlist. We are Sydney first because the team is two people and because we want to show Brisbane installers dated Sydney results before asking them to sign. We have no clients yet anywhere, so there is nothing local to show.

To get on the waitlist, book a 15-minute audit and tell us you are in Queensland. We will contact the waitlist first when Brisbane opens. Until then, our Sydney page shows how we run a home market.

FAQ

Brisbane questions

Are you taking Brisbane HVAC clients now?

No. We are Sydney first, and Brisbane opens once we have dated, real results from Sydney client diaries. We have no clients yet anywhere, so we would rather prove the system at home than sell you a territory on a promise. Join the waitlist through the audit form and we will contact waitlisted installers first.

Is there a Queensland rebate I can put in aircon ads?

Not one we would build a campaign on. Queensland has no equivalent live statewide air conditioner discount to the NSW Energy Savings Scheme or Victorian Energy Upgrades. So Brisbane ads lead with the free in-home heat-load assessment, a dated install-by promise and pre-summer booking slots instead of a government discount.

How long is the aircon season in Brisbane?

Long. BOM's Brisbane station averages 74.3 days a year at 30°C or more, and almost all of them fall between October and March. Summer nights average above 20°C from December to March. That is roughly six months of cooling demand, against a much shorter run in Sydney.

Do Brisbane homes need heating from their aircon?

Some do. The city station averages a July minimum of 10.5°C and no nights at 2°C or less. Amberley, out west near Ipswich, averages 18.3 nights a year at 2°C or less. So reverse cycle heating is a real selling point in the western suburbs and a minor one near the bay.

Will Brisbane be one territory?

Probably not. When it opens we expect to split Greater Brisbane into several areas, with one HVAC client per service line in each, the same rule as Sydney. The boundaries are not set yet, and we will not sell a Brisbane territory until they are.
