Why your Google Ads aren't converting (and how to fix it)

Back to all articles

Getting clicks but no customers is one of the most frustrating places to be. You're paying for traffic that doesn't turn into enquiries. Usually it's one of these causes, and all of them are fixable.

The landing page is the problem

The most common culprit. If your ad promises one thing and the page delivers another, or the page is slow, cluttered or hard to use on mobile, people leave. Match the page to the ad, make the offer obvious and keep the form short.

You're buying the wrong clicks

Broad keywords and missing negative keywords pull in people who were never going to buy. Tighten your keywords to high-intent terms and block the searches that waste spend. Fewer, better clicks beat more, cheaper ones.

The offer isn't compelling

  • Give people a clear reason to act now, not "contact us".
  • Reduce risk with guarantees, free audits or no-obligation calls.
  • Show proof: reviews, results, credentials.

Tracking is misleading you

Sometimes ads are converting but tracking is broken, so you can't see it, or it's counting the wrong thing, so you optimise toward junk. Confirm your conversion tracking fires on real leads before you judge performance.

Follow-up is the hidden leak

A converted form is only a lead, not a customer. If nobody calls quickly, the sale is lost and the ad gets blamed. Fast follow-up often does more for your return than any change inside the ad account.
